Javier Perez Garrido is a Spanish composer, conductor, clarinetist and music teacher. He has been given performance and composition awards in several national and international music competitions such as the Global Music Awards and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Perez Garrido has played as soloist with many of the most important youth wind and symphonic orchestras around Europe. Since 1998, he has composed nearly 100 works including solo, chamber music, ensemble, choir, concert band and orchestra pieces. His compositions have been performed in various European, American and Asian countries. He has conducted various orchestras and concert bands from Spain and Canada and more than a hundred of composers have written works dedicated to him.

Biography

Javier Perez Garrido started studying music at an early age in Cartagena and got some High Degrees form the Conservatory and the University of Murcia, Spain.

He has received lessons with the clarinetists P. V. Alama, J. M. Azorin, J. Carrasco, A. Cuenca, J. F. Ferrer, C. Gil, Yehuda Gilad, F. Lara, F. Meloni, J. Nees, J. Peitz, E. Perez Piquer, A. Piters, M. Rives, J. Ros, J. Sanz, M. Torres and R. Wiensser and with the composers M. D. Aguilar, J. Artaza, Gregory Fritze, S. Herrero, Anton Garcia Abril, P. Illescas, D. Mora, J. Martinez Ona, F. J. Sanchez, Jose Maria Sanchez-Verdu and Juan Maria Solare. As a conductor he has attended lessons with internationally renowned maestros such as Jan Cober, Ferrer Ferran, A. Perez Bernabe, J. R. Pascual Vilaplana, A. Valero Castells, etc. Furthermore, Perez Garrido joined film scoring composition courses with film composer Roque Banos (The Oxford Murders), chamber music courses with C. Martinez Mehner, I. Sulyga and lectures by composers Luis De Pablo, Cristobal Halffter, F. Larso, Tomas Marco, I. Nommik, etc.

As a clarinet performer, he has won several national and international awards in soloist competitions (First Prize by VII Entre Cuerdas y Metales Young Musicians Competition, Spain) chamber music contests (Finalist by II “Acordes” National Chamber Music Competition, Spain) and concert band competitions (First Prizes by Valencia International Band Competition, Spain, Murcia National Band Competition, Spain, Campo de Criptana National Band Competition, Spain, Leganes National Band Competition, Spain, Aranda de Duero International Band Competition, Spain, Acordes National Band Competition, Spain etc.)

Perez Garrido has been a member of several concert bands and orchestras, including the Agrupacion Musical Sauces Concert Band, the Banda Sinfonica de la Federacion de Murcia Concert Band, the Murcia Youth Orchestra, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the FIOJ International Youth Orchestra, the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, etc. playing as soloist in Spain, Austria, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovakia. Many of his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television.

As a composer, Perez Garrido has created almost a hundred of works. Some of them have been awarded in several composition competitions. His music includes soloist works, chamber music works, vocal and chorale works, opera works and symphonic works for concert band and orchestra.

In 2006, his symphonic poem “Fantasia, Op.14” became finalist by the International Symphonic Wind Band Composition Competition “Adolf Ventas”, Spain. In 2008, he obtain a First Award and a Special Mention by the XVI National Concert Band Composition Competition “Villa de Pozo Estrecho”, Spain, with his work “Asociacion Musical el Castillo, Op.24”. In 2012, his composition “Obertura Latinoamericana Op.45” for brass ensemble has been awarded by the II International Competition “Bronces Verdes”, Argentina. His composition for wind orchestra "Rex Regum, Op.23" received the First Prize by the National Wind Orchestra Composition Competition of Toledo (Spain) in 2012. His work "Soledad, Op.56" won the Third Prize by the IV National Concert Band Composition Competition "San Pedro del Pinatar 2013" (Spain). Besides, Perez Garrido has recently won the Honor Mention by National Competition "Manuel Carrascosa" 2013 (Valencia, Spain) and been selected by Fifteen Minutes of Fame to premiere his Op.51 in New York City, USA (2012). In 2014, Perez Garrido receive the Gold and Bronze Medals at important Global Music Awards, California, USA, the First Honorical Mention at the III National Concert Band Composition Competition of Toledo and the Official Nomination for the prestigious Hollywood Music in Media Awards from Los Angeles (USA) at the Instrumental/Orchestral music composition category.

During Summer, 2013, the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra under the direction of Jan Cober premiered his composition "European Overture, Op.42" in Luxembourg and performed it again in all of their tour´s concerts including their participation at the World Music Championship (Kerkrade, Netherlands) with Simon Bolivar Orchestra, among others. The composition of Perez Garrido became a success and was very well received by important musicians, critics and audience.

In recent years, Perez Garrido has been commissioned to premiere works for the 38th International Trumpet Guild, Michigan, USA, the First Centennial of Alicante Symphonic Concert Band, Alicante, Spain, Fifteen minutes for fame, New York City, USA, XX National Concert Band Competition “Ciudad de Murcia”, Spain, among others.

His compositions have been premiered in Argentina, Austria (Vienna), Canada (Quebec, Alberta), Colombia, Costa Rica (San Jose), France, Germany, Italy (Rome), Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands (World Music Championship, Kerkrade) Portugal (Porto), South Korea (Seoul), Spain and the United States (New York, California, Washington, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota) by important soloist, chamber groups, choruses, wind bands and orchestras. Last year, people could hear almost thirty concerts including some of them. Many of his works have been broadcast (radio, television), recorded (CDs, DVDs) and published by MOLENAAR (The Netherlands), CIMARRON MUSIC PRESS (USA), PILES (Spain), BROTONS & MERCADALL and EGGE VERLAG (Germany).

He has conducted the Camerata de Murcia Orchestra, the Alter Musici Orchestra as well as the Didsbury High School Wind Ensemble from Canada, the Unio Musical Ribaroja del Turia, the Banda Maestro Martin Diaz from Argamasilla de Alba, the Ciudad de Toledo Concert Band, the Asociacion Musical El Castillo Concert Band and the Sociedad Union Musical Santa Cecilia de Caudete, etc.

In recognition to his musical career, Perez Garrido has received the Silver Medal of Seron (Almeria, Spain)
