He was born in February 1968 and lives in Switzerland. He was born in Tehran, Iran. He arrived in the UK in 1979 and studied electrical and electronic engineering and is a UK chartered accountant.
Career
Marandi has investments across different sectors in the UK, Europe and Asia.
He is the landlord of Soho Farmhouse, the rural outpost of the Soho House members club group in Oxfordshire, England, which opened in 2015 and has a 99% occupancy rate, catering to what the London Sunday Times calls “affluent, liberal-minded media types ”. He also has a half share in the Soho House Group restaurant division. He stated in a 2016 interview with the Daily Telegraph (UK) that the group “can open 100 shops across all brands”, and it now has international branches in Chicago and Barcelona.
Marandi is spending £50 million transforming the former Monnet Cognac cellars in south-west France into a 100-room, five-star hotel and spa, due to open in 2018. The luxury hotel has been designed by French architect Didier Poignant.
Marandi is an investor in the scaffolding company Roth Gerüste, based in Switzerland. When asked about his decision to invest in the firm, he noted that it was a 'market leader' and also that Swiss investment is a 'mature, low-risk market for investors'.
