Career

Smith was formerly the third, (or vice-skip), of John Shuster's team. His other teammates were Jeff Isaacson and John Benton (Chris Plys joined the team as alternate). As a member of this team, he won the 2009 U.S. National Championships which earned him a trip to the 2009 World Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Since this competition doubled as the 2010 U.S. Olympic Trials, he was also qualified to compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

At the 2009 World Championships, Jason Smith and his team placed fifth. They ended Round Robin play in a tie for a playoff position and they lost that tie to Team Norway.

In Vancouver, the United States men's curling team performed badly, finishing the round robin with a 2-7 record. During the games, Smith and Shuster switched spots due to Shuster's poor performance. Smith played fourth stones, while Shuster skipped and played third stones. The Olympic team soon broke up after they placed 8th in Vancouver. Shuster joined the Craig Brown rink, John Benton formed his own team, and Smith joined Joey Bonfoey's rink for the 2010-11 World Curling Tour.

In the 2011–12 curling season, Smith rejoined with Jeff Isaacson and teamed up with American junior champion Aaron Wald and former junior teammate Kris Perkovich.
