Biography

Born in 1954 in inner city Birmingham, Russell won a scholarship to King Edward VI high school and went on to become the first person in her family to attend university. Russell graduated from Southampton university in the mid-1970s and went on to become a social worker, and later a counsellor and trainer of counsellors. Janice Russell wrote her first novel, Keeping Abreast, after surviving breast cancer in 1995 and has since written two more. She has also taught creative writing.
