Jane Gray


Jane P. Gray is a former district judge for a Wake County, North Carolina, United States. She served from 2002 until retirement in 2012.

Education

Gray received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Florida and a J.D. from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.

After working at the North Carolina Department of Justice from 1980 through 1998, Gray served as general counsel for the office of the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives. She was appointed to the state District Court bench in 2002, elected to the court in 2004, and re-elected in 2008.

Candidacy

Running for the Court of Appeals in 2010, Gray was endorsed by the Charlotte Observer, which called her an "outstanding trial court judge with extensive service in the executive and legislative branches before joining the judicial branch of government." In the May 2010 non-partisan primary, Gray came in second of the three candidates, thus advancing to the November general election where she was defeated by Ann Marie Calabria
