Jane Nelsen (nee Wood) is a licensed marriage, family, and child counselor in South Jordan, Utah and San Clemente, California. She is the author or coauthor of many books on child discipline, including the Positive Discipline series, and has also developed training workshops to complement her ideas. She has appeared on Oprah and Sally Jessy Raphael.

In 1969 she received a Bachelor of Science in child development and family relations from Brigham Young University and, in 1979, a Doctor of Education from the University of San Francisco. She is the mother of seven children.
