Architecture in the making
Radicant a method for collective empowerment jana revedin at tedxklagenfurt
Jana Revedin, architect, Prof. Arch. Ph.D., born 1965 in Constance (D), studied architecture and urban planning in Buenos Aires, Princeton and Milan and taught as a scientific assistant to Aldo Rossi at the University of Venice, where she submitted her doctorate on the role of public space in the development of a democratic civic identity. In 2000 she was awarded her university teaching and research direction qualification and since then has been appointed as a full professor at Beuth University Berlin and Spittal Institute of Technology. In 2016 she was appointed to design the two-years masters' programme "The collective factory: experimental projects in open-work design" at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris. A UNESCO sustainability expert and delegate on the research and education commission of the International Union of Architects (UIA), she campaigns for a paradigm change in the civic mission of her profession.
Alongside her internationally award-winning architectural and urban design projects Jana Revedin devotes herself to the support of and networking among pioneers and groundbreaking talents in the area of sustainable design. In 2005 the European Commission appointed her to lead the first student competition for sustainable architecture (gau:di), whose winners she then exhibited at the Biennale in Venice. In 2006 she created the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture™, which is awarded annually to five architect colleagues and in 2009 she established the non-profit LOCUS Foundation, which supports research into sustainable design processes and tests these in experimental urban renewal projects. The author of standard works in the area of sustainable architecture, winner of the award for "teaching excellence" from Europe's universities of urban planning (2013), the global UN Habitat prize (2014) and the "PhD thesis of excellence" medal from the French Academy of Architects (2016) and a French Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (2014), Jana Revedin researches her "radicant" participatory design theory while exploring interdisciplinary self-development concepts in open-work processes with the objective of proving how architecture "with the people by the people" is both feasible ans scalable.
