James Stanley (born November 12, 1978 in Jackson, Michigan), is a former American Football Player and is currently the Defensive Backs Coach for the Hamilton Ti-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). As a player Stanley played professional indoor football from 2004-2007 for various teams in the AFl, AF2, NIFL and AIFL and was the first overall pick in the AIFL draft in 2005. In Stanley's coaching career he has coached for several teams at the High School, College, NFL and CFL level. Stanley was a key contributor to the coaching staff as a Linebacker Coach for the Toronto Argonauts, as they won the 100th Grey Cup in 2012.

High school career
Stanley went to Jackson High School, where he played football, basketball and ran track. Stanley graduated in 1997.
College career
Stanley played football for the University of Toledo from 1997 - 2002, and during his career earned trips to two bowl games and was part of the 2001 M.A.C. Championship Team. Stanley also was a 4-year letter winner at Toledo.
Professional career
Stanley played four seasons of professional indoor football (2004–07) with various teams in the AFL, AF2, AIFL and NIFL, and was selected with the first overall pick in the Atlantic Indoor Football League draft in 2005.
Coaching career
Stanley is in his fourth season coaching for the Tiger-Cats as a Defensive Backs Coach and in his 6th season coaching in the CFL. Stanley has coached in 3 consecutive Grey Cup games from 2012 - 2014. Stanley became the team’s Defensive Backs Coach in 2013 after helping the Toronto Argonauts capture the 100th Grey Cup championship as Linebackers Coach in 2012. Prior to coaching with the Toronto Argonauts, Stanley began his CFL coaching career as a Defensive Assistant with the Calgary Stampeders in 2011, working primarily with the defensive backs.
In 2010, he was a Special Teams Quality Control/Defensive Assistant Coach with the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials while later serving as a defensive coaching intern with the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. He also spent part of the 2009 season as a Special Teams and Secondary Intern Coach with the NFL’s Detroit Lions.
In addition to his pro experience, Stanley spent three years as the defensive backs coach for the University of Dayton where he coached four All-Conference defensive backs. He also worked with the Cincinnati Marshals of the National Indoor Football League as their defensive backs coach in 2006.
