James Galvin (born 1951 in Chicago). is the author of seven volumes of poetry, The Meadow - a critically acclaimed prose meditation on the landscape of the Wyoming-Colorado border and the people who live there, and the novel Fencing the Sky. His most recent collection of poetry, Everything We Always Knew Was True, published in 2016 by Copper Canyon Press, portrays the gritty ruggedness of the rural American West.

He has been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the Guggenheim Foundation. He has taught at the University of Montana and is a member of the permanent faculty of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, and lives in Tie Siding, Wyoming.
