Life
Jmaes Carl was born in 1960 in Montreal. He is a professor of studio art at the University of Guelph.
Work
Carl's work often involves the use of materials recycled from the trash, such as cardboard and discarded Venetian blinds. His early works in cardboard were designed to be discarded after the exhibition.
Public art
Carl's 1,400 pound public sculpture of a rubber band, titled Things End, is installed permanently outside of the Festival Tower in Toronto.
Collections
Carl's work is included in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada.
