James A. Briden is the Mayor of East Providence, Rhode Island. He has worked simultaneously as a lawyer in private practice at Blais Cunningham & Crowe Chester, LLP (www.blaislaw.com) during his career in elective office.

Early life and education

James Briden attended middle school at The Gordon School in East Providence, graduated high school from Providence's Moses Brown, and received a B.A. in economics from Boston College. Mr. Briden earned his law degree from the University of Arizona.

Mr. Briden passed the Rhode Island bar exam and the following year he passed the Massachusetts bar as well.

Law Practice

James Briden practices law at Blais Cunningham & Crowe Chester, LLP. His practice includes immigration, bankruptcy, real estate, business, estate planning (wills), probate, and municipal/zoning law. Mr. Briden is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

City Solicitor

James Briden served as East Providence's city solicitor/attorney from 2008 to 2010.

City Council

James Briden was sworn in on December 5, 2016 at East Providence City Hall with the four other individuals elected in November to serve on the city council. Mr. Briden was unanimously elected mayor during this inaugural ceremony. He previously served on the Council as Mayor from 2012 to 2014.
