Jaelyn young
Jaelyn Young is an American from Vicksburg, Mississippi, who in 2015 attempted to move to Syria with her fiancé Mohammad Dakhlalla to join ISIS to work as a medic. She was apprehended by the FBI and ultimately pleaded guilty to terrorism charges. U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock sentenced Young to 12 years in federal prison on August 11, 2016.

Early life and education

Young is originally from Vicksburg. She is the daughter of a police officer and a former Navy Reserve member. She attended Warren Central High School and was studying chemistry at Mississippi State at the time of her arrest.
ISIS support and arrest

Young and her then fiancé, Mohammad Dakhlalla, made statements on social media supportive of ISIS. An undercover FBI agent posed as a member of the group and Young told her that while their families did not support ISIS, she and Dakhlalla did and could lend support.

Young and Dakhlalla married in an Islamic ceremony on June 6, 2015. They were arrested on August 8 at a Columbus airport before they boarded a flight to Turkey. Prosecutors said Young was the leader of the plot.

In March 2016, Young pleaded guilty in Aberdeen federal court to one federal terrorism charge. She was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock to 12 years in federal prison on August 11, 2016.
