College career

Hodges began his career as a student manager for the Virginia Cavaliers during the 2008 and 2009 seasons after a decorated high school career. With the arrival of new head coach Mike London in the spring of 2010, he walked on to the football team as a wide receiver. Hodges then competed for, and ultimately won, the job as holder on field goals and PATs.

Between 2010 and 2012 Hodges appeared in 37 games as the holder on every field goal and PAT attempt. His only career collegiate pass was completed for a 16-yard touchdown on a fake field goal in 2010 against Maryland to fullback Terrence Fells-Danzer. Hodges had helped the Cavaliers convert another fake field goal the week before at Duke by flipping the ball over his shoulder to kicker Rob Randolph, who ran 20 yards for a touchdown. Hodges also rushed three times for 29 yards on fake field goal attempts. His career long of 20 yards came during a key Thursday night game at Miami (FL) in 2011 and gave the Cavaliers a first down.

Coaching career

After completing his eligibility as a player, Hodges remained at Virginia, launching his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the defense in the spring of 2013. Hodges served in this capacity for the Cavaliers' 2013 and 2014 seasons, working for defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta.

In July 2015, Hodges was named the safeties coach at Hampden-Sydney.
