An interview with dr jacob groshek
Jacob Groshek (born December 19, 1977) is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Division of Emerging Media Studies.

Groshek has written extensively about how new media technologies may contribute to political change and social movements, and appears regularly in media coverage of social media trends and impacts. He has been interviewed by Cyrus Farivar on Deutsche Welle Radio where he stated that "we also need to keep in mind that it's not just the technology, as important as the technology is and as important as it is for us to safeguard those freedoms of those online spaces we also need to understand that it's what people have to say in those spaces and it's also what contributions they make." His work has also been featured on WBUR, the Boston-area National Public Radio affiliate station, where he visualized Twitter data on the Massachusetts gubernatorial race.
In an interview for Visions about his comparative research on American and French political advertising on YouTube, Groshek stated that his research found that "American ads were far and away much more negative" but also "contrary to our expectations...there was some more frequent personal attacks in the French sample than there was in the US."
Education
Groshek received his Ph.D in Mass Communication from Indiana University, where he worked under David H. Weaver. He previously earned his master's degree in Mass Communication from Marquette University with Phil Seib as his adviser. Groshek holds a bachelor of science degree in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Career
Since earning his Ph.D, Groshek has worked at Iowa State University (USA), Erasmus University (The Netherlands), and the University of Melbourne (Australia). He was also a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study Toulouse (IAST) from May to June 2013.

Groshek oversees the Boston University Twitter Collection and Analysis Toolkit, which makes it possible for researchers and students to customize and study a constantly growing collection of Twitter data on a variety of topics. Groshek maintains this archive and makes it freely available to the research public.

Groshek is regularly featured in international news media, including WBUR, the National Observer, Think Progress, Deutsche Welle, and his work has been referenced in Foreign Affairs.
Teaching
