Plot

As Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe are hanging out at the Drunken Clam, they talk about the new billboard advertising pudding and decide to go check it out. Insisting the billboard contains real pudding, Peter climbs up to check and finds a child who had been missing one week. Mayor Adam West holds a ceremony to honor Peter and give him the key to the city, but Joe suddenly feels disappointed for not being similarly honored after his many years on the force. Joe decides to spontaneously quit his job at the Quahog Police Department and leave his family.

While Lois feels sorry for Joe's family, Peter is less concerned. He, Quagmire and Cleveland visit him in his new apartment and find he is living his dream life. When he suggests a road trip to Niagara Falls, they find he is performing stunts like cow tipping and crashing student keg parties. His attitude gets on their nerves, but after they arrive, they find he is trying to kill himself at the falls. But when they look over the edge, they find he is caught on a tree. Joe is rescued where he reveals that he feels worthless because he is not the man he used to be. They try to convince him that he's still a good man, only for him to try to kill himself a second time and get caught.

They tie him to a hotel cart and decide to get him back to Quahog to get help. But as they decide to finish their sightseeing first, Joe tricks Peter into opening a cable-car door so he can leap out, but when Quagmire tackles him, their wrestling causes the guys to fall out themselves and drop into the water below, leaving Joe to save them. Joe uses his chair to speed along the shore to catch up with them, and hauls himself overhand to dangle his legs low to have them climb up to safety. As they climb up the bank, Joe is applauded for a hero and he realizes that he did it for his friends. They then break into the "Four Friends" song which Joe makes up. Before they can make plans to compose it back in Quahog, Peter ruins it by singing Aqua's "Barbie Girl," causing them to forget the melody.

Back home, Joe meets up with Peter, Quagmire, and Cleveland at the Drunken Clam. He tells them that he was able to easily get his job back because there wasn't any competition for a low-paying job that includes a good chance of being shot and killed, and that he will win back Bonnie by having men come by the house on Tuesday and assault her, after which he will rush in and save her. When Peter states that today is Tuesday, Joe glumly realizes his mistake.

Reception

The episode received an audience of 3.11 million, making it the second most watched show on Fox that night after The Last Man on Earth.
