Jorge Michael Diaz (known professionally as J. Michael Diaz, born 1974) is an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Washington and is a former nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.

Biography

Diaz received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in 1996 from the University of Notre Dame. He received a Juris Doctor in 2002 from Cornell Law School. He began his legal career as an associate in the Houston, Texas office the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright), from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he worked in the Seattle, Washington law firm of Yarmuth, Wilsdon, Calfo PLLC (now Yarmuth Wilsdon PLLC) where he litigated commercial and white collar matters. Since 2008, he has served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Washington, serving as the Civil Rights Program Coordinator for the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office since 2011.

Nomination to district court

On April 14, 2016, President Obama nominated Diaz to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, to the seat being vacated by Judge James L. Robart, who took senior status on June 28, 2016. His nomination expired on January 3, 2017, with the end of the 114th Congress.
