Company profile

Ivory Standard was described as "a fancier version of Craigslist". Its geo-tagging system made it accessible to all parts of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. The company had announced plans to expand to other parts of the world.

Business model

Ivory Standard allowed jobseekers (candidates) to view any and all ads free of charge, with or without a free membership account. Employers and recruiters (clients) could post ads for a small fee each without registration. Frequent posters could sign up for a member account, which allowed posting multiple ads for a fixed monthly fee. Jobseekers, similarly, could choose to pay for a premium account, which would give them access to services like JobTicker (so they could receive an SMS message each time a new ad gets posted).

Advantages

Ivory Standard's advantages included direct URL's to content pages, low costs of use, an elaborate flagging system, a mobile-friendly interface, and the use of disposable e-mail addresses to protect poster anonymity. As with Craigslist, employers using Ivory Standard could choose to mask their actual e-mail address. They could use the default alias ([email protected]) or they could create a customized one, e.g. [email protected].

Disadvantages

The query system was described as complicated. Beginners may have needed some time to get acquainted with it.

The company went out of business in 2014.
