Ivica Ančić (born October 29, 1979) is a professional tennis player from Croatia. His younger siblings, Mario and Sanja, are also professional tennis players.
Tennis career
Ančić was born in Split, at the time in SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia. During his career, from 1996 until 2001, Ančić played Challenger and Futures tournaments.
Twice however he did appear in a main draw match at the ATP Tour-level, both times in doubles. In his second-ever professional tour match in fact Ančić partnered Ivo Karlović in the 1997 Croatian Indoors Grand Prix event in Zagreb. The pair lost to eventual finalists Brent Haygarth and Mark Keil in a third set tie-break. A year later at the same tournament (but in Split), Ančić partnered another future Croatian star, Ivan Ljubičić in a first round lose to Dino Pescariu and Davide Sanguinetti, 3-6, 6-7.
Ančić captured one Futures title, Croatia F1 in 2000 in doubles partnering his brother Mario. In May, 1997, he finished second in the Croatia #2 Satellite series, collecting 41 ATP Tour points in the process.
As for grand slam tennis action, in 1998 Ančić lost in the first round of singles qualifying for the Australian Open, 2-6, 6-7(6) to No. 29 seed Doug Flach.
Ančić's career highest singles ranking was World No. 378, which he reached October 27, 1997. His best doubles ranking was World No. 562, which he achieved April 20, 1998. His total career prize money is $10,208.
Since September 2011 he is the coach of Dutch tennis player Thiemo de Bakker.
