Early life

Born in San Terenzo, Italy, Zucchelli studied architecture in Florence for two years before leaving his previous interests behind to study design and style at Polimoda the famous prestigious fashion school of Florence. After working in menswear for Jil Sander, he worked for Calvin Klein for six seasons before Klein left the company and Zucchelli was promoted to Men's Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection for spring 2004.

He has been often noted for using unique materials in his designs. For example, he used foam from bicycle seats which he displayed at his 2009 show in New York.

Zucchelli continues to receive advice from Klein in an effort to stay true to the original vision of the brand. In an interview with David Bradshaw for GQstyle, Zucchelli says: “I try to combine my ideas of what a modern Calvin Klein collection ‘could’ be with those defining what I feel a Calvin Klein collection ‘should’ be.” He practices transcendental meditation.

In 2009 he won his first CFDA award. He was nominated once before in 2007, losing to Ralph Lauren.
