The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (Malay: Muzium Kesenian Islam Malaysia) was officially opened on 12 December 1998. The museum is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s tourist belt amidst the lush greenery of Perdana Botanical Gardens and within walking distance to the National Mosque, Bird Park and National Planetarium.

The museum is the largest museum of Islamic arts in South East Asia with more than seven thousands artifacts from the Islamic world.

Exhibits

The Islamic Arts Museum has 12 main galleries which is classified according to the types of artefacts spread over level 3 and 4. Level 3 of the museum hosts the Quran and Manuscripts Gallery, the Islamic Architecture Gallery, the India Gallery, the Chinese Gallery, the Ancient Malay World Gallery as well as the reconstructed Ottoman Syrian Room dating back to the 19th Century. Visitors can also proceed upstairs to Level 4 which hosts a display of jewellery, textile, arms and armour, ceramics as well as ancient Islamic glassware.

The museum is accessible within walking distance west of Kuala Lumpur railway station.
