María Isabel Celaá Diéguez (born 1949 in Bilbao) is a Basque politician. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of the Basque Country–Basque Country Left (PSOE) party. Celaá has been a member of the Basque Parliament from 25 November 1998 to 12 May 2009, and since 20 November 2012, and was its Vice President between 2008 and 2009. Minister of Education, Universities and Research of the Basque Government from 9 May 2009 to 14 December 2012, she is particularly interested in the improvement of the Basque educational system and technology, and advocates scientific research.
