Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (インターネットイニシアティブ) (TYO: 3774, NASDAQ: IIJI) was founded in 1992 by Koichi Suzuki, IIJ (Internet Initiative Japan) as Japan’s first ISP. By leveraging the technological expertise gained through its internet connectivity services, the company has expanded its business portfolio as a total solutions provider, now offering network services, value-added outsourcing services, cloud computing, WAN services and systems integration services. IIJ's flagship cloud service named IIJ GIO is among Japan’s public cloud computing leaders, previously ranked as the top provider in the Japanese cloud market for 2 consecutive years (Fuji Chimera Research Inst., July 2012 and Aug 2013).

Today, IIJ serve more than 8,500 blue chip clients, and operates in: Japan, US, UK, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand. They employ more than 3000 staff worldwide, over 70% of which are technical engineers.

From 1999 IIJ were listed on NASDAQ, USA (listed August 1999; ticker symbol IIJI) and as of 2006 were listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (listed December 2006; stock ticker number: 3774).

IIJ also operates IIJmio, a prepaid mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service started in 2001 which operates on the NTT DoCoMo network.
