The international adoption of Haitian children is common in the United States. Haiti is not a signatory to the Hague Adoption Convention. Thirty-three children were brought home to the U.S. in 2011.

Requirements

  • Haiti does not require travel to the country for adoption.
  • Single parent adoption is permitted, provided they are 35 or older.
  • "For married couples, one prospective adoptive parent may be under age 35, provided the couple has been married for ten years and has no biological children."
  • Parents must be 19 years older than the child they are adopting.
