History
The mission of the International School of Indiana is to provide our students with a world-class education that prepares them to be responsible citizens and effective leaders in a rapidly globalizing and interdependent world.
In 1991 an Indiana Humanities Council task force was established to address Indiana’s position in a changing world. The Task Force report, entitled Indiana in a Changing World – A Strategy for Action, emphasized the need for Indiana to:
One of the report’s major recommendations led to the creation of the International School of Indiana in 1994.
Since its founding in 1994, ISI has grown into a 3-year-old through Grade 12 school of more than 600 students. The High School and Middle School classes (and currently two elementary school classes) are on the Michigan Road campus near the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the early years and lower-elementary school classes are held in a 1940s schoolhouse leased from Butler University in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood.
One of six like-minded international schools in the United States, ISI offers an integrated International Baccalaureate curriculum that is transferable to schools around the world. The ISI curriculum imparts the problem-solving skills students need in the 21st-century economy.
Campus
The school campus is situated in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis, with the majority of the facilities situated on 60 wooded acres north of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Grades 4 through 12 are located at 4330 Michigan Road, and pre-kindergarten through Grade 3 classes are held at the school's 49th Street building.
Curriculum
The school has an accredited IB Diploma Programme, Middle Years Programme, and the Primary Years Programme.
ISI is the only school in the Midwest where all of its upper school students participate in the full International Baccalaureate Diploma programme.

Student groups and activities include the Aid to Congo Project, Habitat for Humanity, Literary Arts Society, Model United Nations, an Oxfam banquet, student government, the Timmy Foundation, a vocal jazz ensemble, the Gryphon Voices choir, art club, yearbook and sports.
