History
The International Photography Awards were created by Hossein Farmani as part of the mission of the Lucie Foundation. They were initially presented in December 2003 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, at the Lucie Awards gala produced by Golden Globe nominee, Michelle Burstin.
A new category was added in 2007, when finalists in non-professional and student categories were invited to the gala to compete for Discovery of the Year, a Lucie statue and $5,000 cash prize. Six candidates from all levels are invited to the gala to compete for Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year, where the images' stories are also judged, for the prize of a Lucie statue and a cash prize of $5,000.
