It is also the UK's largest intermediary-only SIPP provider

History

The company was established in 2002 by founder and sole financier Julian Penniston-Hill.

In December 2006 Intelligent Money purchased the SIPP business of The Money Portal plc.

The company also worked closely with the Telegraph Media Group (owners of the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph) on SIPP promotions. The Telegraph Media Group is registered with the FCA as an Appointed Representative of Intelligent Money.

To focus fully on its adviser only business model, Intelligent Money sold its direct-to-consumer client book to Clubfinance in late 2012.

The same year Intelligent Money took over the running of leading French bank BNP Paribas's book of SIPP business. A spokesman for BNP Paribas said "We went to the market looking for a provider ...did some due diligence and handed responsibility to Intelligent Money. Intelligent Money stated "some of the major SIPP providers were surveyed by BNP [Paribas], and we came out on top".

In 2014 the company launched its auto enrolment compliant group proposition.

Operations

Intelligent Money specialises in providing risk managed target dated investment portfolios (the IM Optimum Portfolio range) and SIPP, Qualifying Workplace Pension Scheme (a Group SIPP) and pension wrappers to FCA regulated firms. The company has three core investment strategies; IM Optimum Growth (which manages down to cash at target date), IM Optimum Growth & Income (which manages down to an income producing portfolio at target date) and IM Optimum Income Drawdown (which aims to provide ongoing regular income and capital growth).

Corporate Associations

Intelligent Money works in strategic partnership with Quilter Cheviot in the running of the IM Optimum Portfolios and is known to bank with Coutts & Co.
