Intelligent environments sets up in belfast creating 50 new it jobs
History
Intelligent Environments was listed on the stock market until 2012 when it was acquired by a private company.
Management
Intelligent Environments key senior staff members are led by Executive Chairman, David Carman and Managing Director David Webber, alongside a board of both executive and non executive directors.
Application Manager and NetFinance
Intelligent Environments was originally best known for producing a client/server development tool called Application Manager (AM) for OS/2 and later for Windows (the Windows version was funded by a loan from Microsoft). AM was widely used by financial institutions worldwide as a client/server development tool for in-house development.
The iteration following on from Application Manager was NetFinance.
Interact
Intelligent Environments now produces an application, account management, and administration product suite built using Microsoft .NET and C Sharp technology and operates using a single product platform. PCI-DSS Level 1 certification has been obtained for this iteration of the product and client support is provided via a UK based Network Operations Centre, who offer support services including PCI compliance, live production support and hosting operations.
This omni-channel front end software is called Interact.
New releases of the product, both major and minor, are typically made available every 3 months, with system upgrades being made based on whether the contained functionality has relevance.
The platform integrates into existing online banking systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, call centre databases, workflow and back-office systems. It was built using a responsive web design so can be used across several digital channels such as mobile phones, tablets and PC's.
Emoji Passcode
In June 2015, Intelligent Environments released new software for logging into banking apps. Emoji Passcode lets users log into their app without the need for a traditional password.
The Smart Watch Bank
In November 2013, Intelligent Environments developed technology specifically designed for the Pebble Watch. The company designed and built an application that permits the wearer to receive notifications of their finances through their watch.
ZappTheTab
Intelligent Environments participated in 2014's ZappHack #ReviveRetail, a hackathon sponsored by mobile payments company Zapp, where several technology companies spent 36 hours attempting to create a new app using Zapp technology.
Intelligent Environments placed second behind Sagepay, after creating an app 'ZappTheTab' which combined iBeacon technology with Zapp to enable a whole restaurant table to order through their mobile devices at the same time, which it said could help solve potentially awkward shared bill payments.
Hackathons
In January 2015, Intelligent Environments launched an in-house hackathon, as part of their ongoing innovation programme. The Hackathon saw six teams entered into the final, who spent 30 hours testing, coding and designing their apps, competing to take the top prize. The concepts that emerged from the hackathon were largely around wearable technology and security.
There have been two subsequent hackathons, in July 2015 and again in January 2016; with the concepts primarily featuring personal finance management and customer service rating tools.
FinovateEurope 2015
On 10 February 2015, Intelligent Environments participated in the annual FinovateEurope conference, where they demonstrated their attack-aware security software, AppSensorFS.
Clients
Intelligent Environments provides operational services to financial institutions, retailers, and telecoms providers, including Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC and The Home Retail Group.
Partners
Intelligent Environments traditionally partners with larger companies who operate in the same financial services field. They are normally companies who provide back office processing systems that can integrate with the company's front end platform. Current partners include: Avanade, FIS, First Data and Unisys.
The Digital Banking Club
The Digital Banking Club was established in January 2013 by Intelligent Environments in conjunction with the Timetric publications: Retail Banker International, Cards International and Electronic Payments International.
The Digital Banking Club is built as an independent online community and is run through a portal that hosts a wide selection of blogs, news articles, whitepapers and a wider commentary about the financial services industry as well as a forum for members to participate in.
The Club offers free membership to those within the financial services community and runs a selection of events such as a quarterly panel debates on a relevant financial topic and it has previously run a series of webinars. Other initiatives have included The European Digital Financial Services Power 50 and The Digital Banking Club Advisory Panel.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Intelligent Environments' company charity is The Emily Ash Trust, a charity devoted to helping young people with cancer. The company has been raising funds for this charity since 2012.
In order to raise money in 2014, a team from Intelligent Environments competed in the Emily Ash Trust's 5 km assault course as well as several other activities ranging from sponsored poker nights, to football tournaments and bake sales.
Corporate Associations
Intelligent Environments was an Associate Member of The Building Societies Association from December 2013 to December 2014.
