The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura was a political party in the Indian state of Tripura. Formed on June 9, 1997 when the Tripura Hill People's Party (THPP) and Tripura Tribal National Conference (TTNC) merged. Initially the Tripura National Volunteers of Bijoy Hrangkwal was supposed to merge into the IPFT, but they withdrew from the project. Debabrata Koloi, the THPP leader, became the IPFT general secretary.

IPFT gained its political breakthrough in the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council in 2000. The underground terrorist outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura had declared that only IPFT would be allowed to contest the elections. The only ones to defy the NLFT diktat were the Left Front, in spite of a series of assassinations, death threats and kidnappings. The elect

cions were won by IPFT, largely due to the support from NLFT. TNV supported IPFT in the elections. IPFT won 17 ADC seats out of total 28 seats.

Shortly after the elections TNV joined IPFT. In 2001 Tripura Upajati Juba Samiti merged with IPFT to form the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura, after pressure from NLFT.

INPT make allaince with Indian national congress before 2003 Tripura Legislative Assembly election, but they can't abled to get majority in the election. INPT just abled to win in six(6) assembly ST seats.

After the 2003 assembly election INPT split in two parts. 6 ADC members left the party & formed National Socialist Party of Tripura (NSPT) under the leadership of Hirendra Tripura & Budhu kumar Debbarma. NSPT make Govt in ADC by the support of CPIM. Then after many leaders of INPT like Ratimahan Jamatia, Debabrata Koloi's are left the party & joined hands with Indian National Congress .

In 2005 A.D another Youth leader & MLA of INPT Animesh Debbarma left the party to form National Conference of Tripura(NCT).

Before the 2009 Loksabha election some INPT leader's decided to revived the IPFT party under the leadership of former All India Redio Director N.C Debbarma & so called "Think tank" of Tripura. Tipraland state within TTAADC under the article 2 & 3 of Indian Constitution is the main demand of IPFT.

IPFT faught in the booth Looksabha seats of Tripura in 2009, but they get very less no of vote's. They faught 21 ADC seats out of total 28 seats in the election of 2010 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, but they get only 2126 votes in total & IPFT also take part in 2013 A.D Tripura assembly elections, but they failed & just abled to secured 11234 votes in 17 contested seats. After the 2013 A.D assembly election a famous women leader of IPFT namely Patal Kanya Jamatia left the party & joined Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra, letter on she formed Tripura Peoples Front (TPF).

In 2015 ADC election IPFT faught 27 ADC seats out of 28 seats, but unable to registered win in a single seat of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. IPFT abled to secured 2nd position with 115252 votes.

After the 2015 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council election IPFT spleeted again & some of them formed Tipraland state party (TSP).

But the party is started to become weekend after the some most important Youth leaders of IPFT like David Murasing, Pabitra Jamatia's are left the party & joined hands with BJP in the last month of 2016.

Currently it is a part of North-East Regional Political Front consisting of political parties of the northeast which has supported the National Democratic Alliance (India)
