History

In 2015, the first governing body for professional boxing in India, IPBA - Indian Professional Boxing Association was formed in Delhi. The birth of the Indian Professional Boxing Association was mainly due to the efforts of Mr. Shahe Ali, President of the Indian Professional Boxing Association. The IPBA plans to not only make the transition of Indian athletes from amateur boxing to the world of professional boxing a smooth affair but also reform how the game is managed. The IPBA wants the world to see India as a premiere breeding ground of power sports in the world of sports.

Overview

Boxing, as a sport in India, does not command a significant fan following, which is often attributed to the lack of discernible international exposure. However, despite Indian limited success in global championships events, athletes have regularly won medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games. Since the first national boxing championship in 1950, India has not until 2015 established any platform for professional boxers. After a long wait of 65 Years, India is stepping into Professional Boxing.
