History

The website was founded in 2011 by Govindraj Ethiraj, a journalist and former editor-in-chief of Bloomberg TV India.

The editor of IndiaSpend.com is Samar Halarnkar, a journalist and former managing editor of Hindustan Times.

Initiatives

During the 2014 general election, IndiaSpend created a YouTube video series titled Mera Neta (my leader) which had candidates responding to questions on different issues.

In 2014, IndiaSpend created Factchecker.in, a website dedicated to fact checking statements made by individuals in public life. A Hindi-language version (IndiaSpendHindi.com) was launched in March 2015.
