History

The epicenter of education of Arunachal Pradesh was established as a formal township in the year 1911. On refusal by the then British Government of India, the local people of Pasighat themselves took up initiative and opened a venture Lower Primary School on self-help basis on Ashram pattern and engaged one Sri Putiram Kaman as its teacher. The school had classes up to 3rd standard. After passing the 3rd standard, willing students had to go to Sadiya Middle School run by American Baptist Mission for further studies. There were few schools for development of education in NEFA. The British administration opened a Lower Primary School, Paglek (Presently Pasighat) in 1918. But, due to natural disaster of flood in Siang River, the said school could not survive longer. Hence the present Hr. Sec. School was established as a Lower Primary School in 1940. Consequently, it was upgraded as M. E. School in 1947, as Secondary School in 1952 and as full-fledged Higher Secondary School in 1963. Finally, a Red letter Day came in due course and this premier institution was declared as Independence Golden Jubilee Govt. Higher Secondary School in the year 1997 on the event of completion of 50 years of Indian Independence with 50 years of its own glorious past. After completion of its glorious journey of 60 years, the Diamond Jubilee celebration was held in the year 2007. The achievements of this institution have been continuous and never-ending saga of unprecedented success since 1947. Its journey continues by redeeming the dreams of thousands of its students. So the seed sown and nurtured as a small Primary School has blossomed forth into a prestigious institution. It has pioneered the qualities of the students; consequently the alumni have been spread to all walks of life heralding the helms of affairs. The result of educational philosophy and practices that has shaped academic career of pupils in attaining commendable result is the praise worthy achievement of this institution. The school has touched the pinnacle of success not only with a notable and exemplary results in AISS/AISSC examinations but also stands at the top in the state by sending forth its products into Engineering, Medical and other professional colleges in the country in majority. The commendable achievement made by this institution since all aptly recognizes its inception with unflinching faith. Not even a single instance has been recorded till date where it failed in achieving its goal. A devoted and dedicated lot of the teachers, since its inception, have been drawn from all parts of India. All of them work with missionary spirit. A good number of teachers have been recognized with state honour. The President Award winner Smt. B. Dai in 1999 is the record of excellence of past scenario of this pioneer institution. The teachers and students used to come from far flanged area to be associated in teaching and learning process. Consequently, today this premier school represents mini India accommodating the staff and students of almost all parts of the country. The present enrolment of student of this school is around 1760 (class IX to XII) whereas, in 1952, the maiden group of 5 (five) students appeared for matriculation examination and got through successfully. This institution enjoys the privilege to proud upon alumni who have established themselves as outstanding Politicians, Bureaucrats, Social workers, etc. in services to the people of the state.

Aims and objective

The students of this prime institution are well known for their active participation in various literary activities like State level Governor’ Quiz competition, State level Essay competition, Debate, Drawing and Painting competitions, etc. They also take part in various cultural activities. The school holds a good reputation in the field of social service. Charity programmes were organized for raising funds for Kargil War Victims, Tsunami Victims, Prime minister’s Relief fund, Communal Harmony fund, etc. besides helping the Pasighat Flood victims. Though a lot has been done but still much remain to achieve for which IGJ. Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Pasighat stands forth and committed to following ideals & objectives:
(i) To build up a generation that thinks globally and acts locally to build up a strong society, state and nation.
(ii) To improve qualitative improvement in both process and products.
(iii) Priority to curriculum, evaluation and institutional management.
(iv) To provide peaceful conducing academic environment to the teacher and taught.
(v) To produce top ranking academician to stand in any sphere of life.
