Reception
Prior to its release, the film was subject to scrutiny by the Ontario Film Review Board, which called for the elimination of a 35-second sex scene. Despite this, the unaltered version of the movie was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival. Even in the face of a subway strike and inclement weather, a significant number of spectators gathered outside the Elgin Theatre, eager to view the film. According to some sources, there were counterfeit tickets being distributed, and a riot almost formed as ticket holders were turned away.
