Production and themes
Among the guest artists on the ten tracks were Chris Mathien, Megan McNeal, and A Cross. After their previous collaboration on Jahzel's track "Inner City Kid," producer Tone P was brought in to produce the overall album, with Jahzel stating "I like the way he produces records, they go with my style of music." Unlike Jet Lag, no DJ was brought in for the mixtape.
Stated Jahzel about the album's themes in comparison to his previous Jet Lag mixtape, "Jet Lag was a more laidback concept. I used a traveling theme because that was what I was doing at the time. I took this serious as more of an album release while Jet Lag was a true mixtape." He also explained to HipHopDX, "as a human being...some days I might feel righteous, some days I might feel braggadocious, I wanted to communicate that range on In God's Image."
Release
In July 2013 he released the mixtape's song "One Day" as a single, and also that month his track "The Break" was featured in XXL Magazine. Jahzel released the free mixtape In God's Image on July 2, 2013, through Soundcloud and various stores in Chicago.
