History

Immanu El Immanu El Merchworld

Immanu El (post- / indie rock) from Gothenburg, Sweden, started as a musical experiment in 2004 by 16-year-old Claes Strängberg, who was soon joined by his twin brother Per and friends David Lillberg, Jonatan Josefsson, and Robin Ausberg. The music has its roots in the early post-rock scene and the ambition of the band has always been to create something captivating and beautiful, experimenting with other styles and elements with ambitious vocal arrangements. After touring, supporting such bands as Logh and Loney, Dear they got a chance in 2005 to play a set on the 'Rookie Stage' in the Hultsfred Festival an opportunity for unsigned bands to perform at a major event. They released their first demo EP titled Killerwhale in 2005, before being signed to Swedish independent record label And the Sound Records and Japanese label Thomason Sounds (Inpartmaint) in 2007. The first full-length album They'll Come, They Come was released in August 2007 and the band moved from the outskirts of Jönköping to Gothenburg. The second album Moen was released 2009 after several tours in Europe during 2008. The band has gained a growing reputation as one of the most promising bands from Scandinavia and performed over 300 shows in 30 countries in Europe, Asia and North America since the release of their debut album. After four years living on the west coast of Sweden, their relationship with the sea has left a clear imprint upon their album, 'In Passage,' which was released October 29th, 2011. During 2012/2013 Immanu El performed at SXSW in Austin, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Filter's Culture Collide Festival in LA, CMJ Music Marathon in New York, Canadian Music Week in Toronto and Strawberry Festival in Beijing and Shanghai. In May 2013, the album They'll Come, They Come was released in a new edition by And The Sound Records and the German partner label Kapitän Platte. The band plans to continue touring but also began work on a new album later in 2013.
