The school currently caters for about 1100 pupils from pre-preparatory school to Year 12.
History
The Illawarra Grammar School was founded in 1959 through the efforts of the late Bishop Gordon Begbie and a group of 'founding parents' who firmly believed in the need for a regional Anglican School to be based in the Illawarra. On its opening day, 3 February 1959, the first headmaster, Rev R F Bosanquet and two staff, welcomed 28 boys into the school. In 1975, the school became co-educational when it amalgamated with SCEGGS 'Gleniffer Brae'. In 2009 TIGS celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its founding.
In 2012 TIGS became an International Baccalaureate World School, implementing the Primary Years Program (PYP). The school is currently implementing the Middle Years Program (MYP). In 2017, the school started implementing the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for Year 11. Students are given a choice between the NSW HSC program and the DP program.
