Sir Iftikhar Ayaz was brought up in Tanzania. He received his university education in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. He was awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship and graduated with a B.Ed. General with Honours in the United Kingdom. He went on to acquire two Postgraduate Diplomas in Education disciplines. His Masters degree, also from the United Kingdom, was in Applied Linguistics which was followed by a Ph.D in Education and Training for Human Development awarded in the United States. Prior to beginning his professional career, Sir Iftikhar Ayaz had been awarded the Queen’s Badge, and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 1956. He has worked in senior positions with the University of Dar es Salaam, the Centre for Integrated Rural Development for Africa, Commonwealth Fund for Technical Corporation, UNDP and UNESCO. He has been serving on the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Committee for the Rights of Minorities. He has served as a Commonwealth Field Expert in the Tuvalu Islands for over ten years. During his tenure he introduced an innovative programme of 'Education for Life' which was highly commended by the Commonwealth and UNESCO. Presently, he is Chairman of the International Human Rights Committee, Consul General for Tuvalu Islands in the United Kingdom, Director of the World Media Forum International, Adviser/Consultant Human Development and Poverty Alleviation and Conflict Resolution. He takes keen interest in issues related to climate change and sustainable development and has lectured on this subject extensively in various international forums and universities.
Sir Iftikhar is the recipient of several honours including an O.B.E (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) and more recently a K.B.E (Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) which speaks of his services to humanity.
Sir Iftikhar Ayaz is an eminent member of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He has been the National President of the U.K Chapter and is a prolific writer having published several books. He has spoken on a number of high-profile Peace Symposiums in several countries of the world. At present he is actively engaged in the welfare and wellbeing of migrants and refugees in various countries of the world, particularly South East Asia. He travels regularly to these countries and is working closely with the UN High Commission for Refugees and several other human rights organisations and refugee councils. He is an advocate of freedom of religion and interfaith understanding and cooperation for peace and harmony.
