Organization

In April 2007, Reykjavik Energy, Reykjavik University and The University of Iceland signed an agreement to establish an international graduate program for sustainable energy studies called the Reykjavik Energy Graduate School for Sustainable Systems. REYST's inaugural class began studies in August 2008 and graduated its first class on 1 February 2010. In early 2013, the REYST program was reorganized into the Iceland School of Energy to include a new partner, Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR). In addition to the permanent partners, Reykjavik Energy and ÍSOR, ISE has active collaborations with institutions both domestically and internationally including Landsvirkjun, Landsnet, Orkustofnun, Arctic Circle (organization), Tufts University´s Fletcher School and the GREEN Program.

Degree programs

ISE offers two MSc degrees in the field of energy studies. Both programs are 1.5 year masters program that culminate in the defense of a thesis project. MSc Sustainable Energy Engineering students can tailor studies towards particular interest areas in the field of energy engineering including the generation, transmission, distribution, and demand activities. The MSc Sustainable Energy Sciences program is tailored at offering a wide range of interdisciplinary students from finance, public policy to geology exposure the technical perspective of energy sciences while allowing them to tailor their studies to their specialty through energy specific courses within Reykjavik University´s School of Business and School of Law as well as internship and thesis studies. Previous ISE MSc students have presented research at the Stanford Geothermal Congress, the Tufts Fletcher School´s Resolving the Arctic Paradox Conference, the Arctic Circle Assembly, and the World Geothermal Congress in Melbourne, Australia.

Faculty

The Faculty and Staff of ISE include scientists from Reykjavik Energy, ÍSOR, Reykjavik University and the University of Iceland. Students attend courses at Reykjavik University as well as at Iceland GeoSurvey and other collaborators´ headquarters.
