Ibad Rehman (Urdu: عباد رحمان) (born July 27, 1964 in Karachi, Pakistan), is the Patron of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in United States. As of 2013 he was managing the local MQM administration.

Education

He attained a degree in Law from Howard University and presently he is associated with a local firm.

Political involvement

He started his political career during his early student life in Pakistan. He was the first organizer of the MQM Philippines unit. He returned to Pakistan in 1991 and stayed in Pakistan till 1993. During this time he was deputed to MQM Legal aid committee, North Nazimabad sector committee and eventually promoted to central cabinet of the MQM Labor Division. During the same period of time He also got elected as a senator to the University of Karachi syndicate. He left for America in 1993, where he joined a local law firm while pursuing his higher education.

As of 2013 he was carrying out tasks given by Altaf Hussain founder and leader of MQM and also by the central coordination committee of the MQM including his representation to the United Nations in Geneva, representing MQM during meetings at the White House, the US State Department and other institutions, meeting with foreign delegationsm, etc.

On December 27, 2009 he was also given responsibility for MQM Canada.

When he was interviewed by a Pakistani TV channel about the MQM's involvement in making Karachi more violent, he responded that this was anti-MQM propaganda.

In 2006 when Pakistani citizen Shehrezad Faruk Czar was indicted in Oakland on charges that he falsely claimed degrees from the University of Berkley, an online correspondence school, in an attempt to secure a visa from the U.S., Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis Davis said Czar knew Altaf Hussain, the head of the MQM, which Davis described as a terrorist outfit. Rehman, acting as attorney for the MQM, denied that the organization knew of Czar or had anything to do with terrorism.

Others

As of 2010 Rehman was involved in charitable activities. According to the Sun Charity Web site, Rehman acted as an official of Sun Charity USA in signing a joint-relief agreement with UN-supported charity Sun of Haiti.
