The song appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1994, peaking at number 89, reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart, was a number one hit in the Netherlands and was a number 8 hit on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

A version recorded by Sacha Baron Cohen has frequently been used throughout the Madagascar films, while the original version appeared in the first episode of Madgascar' Netflix series All Hail King Julien.
