It runs north-south, from Pirie Street, and can be considered a branch of East Terrace. It runs to South Terrace, where it becomes Hutt Road.

Hutt Street was named after Sir William Hutt, an early South Australian pioneer, and a commissioner for the foundation of the state. Today, the street is known for its Colonial-era buildings, which are considered to be of architectural significance. It is also home to many restaurants and boutiques.
