Huon Commonwealth Marine Reserve

The Huon Commonwealth Marine Reserve is a Marine Protected Area of the coast of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. The reserve encompasses approximately 70 seamounts in a compact area. They are situated on depths between 1,000 and 2,000 metres (3,300 and 6,600 ft) and the highest ones reach to 660 metres (2,170 ft) below the surface of the ocean. The area covers about 370 square kilometres (140 sq mi). It lies east of the Tasman Fracture marine reserve.

The reserve was created at 12 May 1999 in line with the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act of 1975. Strict rules regarding the use of its resources (such as fish and minerals) apply and the subsoil of up to 100 metres (330 ft) is part of the protected reserve.

As at 28 June 2007 the earlier Tasmanian Seamounts Marine Reserve was revoked by being incorporated into the current reserve, one of the reserves that constitutes the larger South-east Commonwealth Marine Reserve Network. which exists in the south eastern waters of Australia off the coasts of South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania
