The league is run by a volunteer League Management Committee who are elected annually by the youth leagues member clubs. The league is a member of the British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) and teams from within the youth leagues whilst primarily playing in the local league cups and competitions are also free to enter into the BARLA County and BARLA National Cup competitions.

History

The Hull and District Youth Rugby League Association was established in October 1975 and was the result of the failure to get rugby league played in the senior high schools. Rugby league was still played in the junior schools and the Hull & District Youth Rugby League was set up to keep those children playing.

At first it was very much a youth club league, giving access to facilities and finances. During the 1976 / 77 season things started to take off, and many more clubs were formed, covering all parts of Kingston-upon-Hull.

In 2002, the association began moving the very youngest age groups to play in the summer months and over the next three years moved all of its under-8s through to and including under-11s teams to competitions running from March to September, this coincided with an increase in playing numbers of over 250%.

Under-16s to Under-18s

Teams from these age groups compete in the Yorkshire Combination Youth League and also have the option to enter into the BARLA National and Yorkshire Cup knock-out competitions.

Under-12s to Under-15s

Teams from these age groups take part in locally ran league competitions along with four seeded major cup knock-out events (under-12 Roly Holder Memorial Cup, under-13 Hull Vice-Presidents Trophy, under-14 Peter Lowthorpe Memorial Cup and under-15 Selles Medical Cup). Group cup competitions (Senior, Intermediate and Junior) are held at every age group at the end of each season for those teams who do not reach the finals of the major cups. Like their older counterparts teams have the option to enter into the BARLA National and Yorkshire Cup.

Under-7s to Under-11s

Teams play friendly fixtures against each other throughout the season. The under-11 (U12A) age bracket takes part in the Admiral of the Humber Cup knock-out competition and Eastern & Western end of season festivals where players are selected to represent the East of Hull or West of Hull teams in a one-off celebration of the end of their time with the local mini-league section.

Under-5s to Under-6s

The area has a successful cubs@play scheme which caters for children of ages 4 and 5, volunteers from across the region organise festivals throughout the year teaching children the basic skills of rugby league.
