Andrew Aplin
Andrew Ahyim Aplin (born March 21, 1991) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Houston Astros' Minor League Baseball organization. Prior to playing professionally, he attended Arizona State University, where he played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Aplin was born Suisun City, California, but lived in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the mid-1990s. When he was six, his family moved back to California. Aplin attended Vanden High School in Fairfield, California. After graduating, the New York Yankees selected Aplin in the 33rd round of the 2009 MLB draft. He did not sign, and instead enrolled at Arizona State University in order to play college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team.
The Houston Astros selected Aplin in the fifth round, with the 159th overall selection, of the 2012 MLB draft. He signed quickly, and made his professional debut for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Class A-Short Season New York–Pennsylvania League.
In 2013, Aplin played for the Lancaster JetHawks of the Class A-Advanced California League. Aplin began the 2014 season with the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Class AA Texas League. At the trade deadline, the Astros traded outfielder Austin Wates to the Miami Marlins, and promoted Aplin to the Class AAA Pacific Coast League to replace him. The Astros added him to their 40-man roster after the 2015 season.
Akeem Bostick
Akeem Maurice Bostick (born May 4, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros' organization.
Bostick attended West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. Bostick played for the school's baseball team, and was their ace pitcher. In his senior year, Bostick had a 9-0 win–loss record and a 0.68 earned run average (ERA) with 84 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched.
Bostick committed to attend Georgia Southern College, where he would play baseball and American football. The Texas Rangers selected Bostick in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft. He signed with the Rangers rather than attend college, reportedly receiving a $520,620 signing bonus. The Rangers assigned him to the Arizona Rangers of the Rookie-level Arizona League.
In 2014, Bostick pitched for the Hickory Crawdads of the Class A South Atlantic League. He had a 5.17 ERA. After the 2014 season, the Rangers traded Bostick to the Houston Astros for Carlos Corporán.
His cousin, Brandon Bostick, plays in the National Football League.
J. D. Davis
Jonathan Gregory Davis (born April 27, 1993) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Houston Astros organization.
Davis was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft out of Elk Grove High School in Elk Grove, California. He did not sign and attended California State University, Fullerton, where he played from 2012 to 2014. Davis played first base and was also a pitcher. In his three years he hit, .307/.394/.461 with 14 home runs and 113 runs batted in (RBI) in 156 games. As a pitcher he had a 3.00 earned run average (ERA) and 11 saves.
After his junior season, Davis was drafted by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the Astros and made his professional debut with the Tri-City ValleyCats. After hitting .293 with a .878 on-base plus slugging (OPS) in 30 games, he was promoted to the Quad Cities River Bandits.
Reymin Guduan
Reymin Guduan (born March 16, 1992) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.
Guduan signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in September 2009. The Astros added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.
Leo Heras
Leonard Heras Aripez (born May 29, 1990) is a Mexican professional baseball outfielder in the Houston Astros organization. He has also played in the Mexican League.
Jon Kemmer
Jon Kemmer (born November 17, 1990) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Houston Astros organization.
Kemmer played college baseball at Allegany College of Maryland in 2010 and 2011, Clarion University in 2012 and Brewton–Parker College in 2013. He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 21st round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the Astros and made his professional debut with the Tri-City ValleyCats. In 2014 he played for the Quad Cities River Bandits and Lancaster JetHawks. He played 2015 for the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. Kemmer hit .327 with 18 home runs for Corpus Christi. Kemmer spent 2016 with the Fresno Grizzlies where he hit .265 with 18 home runs with an OPS of .811.
Ramón Laureano
Ramón Laureano (born July 15, 1994) is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder in the Houston Astros organization.
Laureano played college baseball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 16th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his professional debut with the Greeneville Astros and played 2015 with the Quad Cities River Bandits. Laureano started 2016 with the Lancaster JetHawks and was promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks in July. Laureano finished 2016 with a .319 batting average along with 15 home runs and 73 RBI's.
Francis Martes
Francis Euclides Suazo Martes (born November 24, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.
Martes was signed by the Miami Marlins as an international free agent in November 2012. He made his professional debut in 2013 with the Dominican Summer League Marlins. On July 31, 2014, Martes along with Colin Moran and Jake Marisnick was traded from the Marlins to the Houston Astros for Jarred Cosart, Enrique Hernández and Austin Wates. Martes started 2015 with the Quad Cities River Bandits. He was later that season promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks and Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. He returned to Corpus Christi in 2016 where he posted a 9-6 record with a 3.30 ERA, and after the season played in the Arizona Fall League.
Brendan McCurry
Brendan Scott McCurry (born January 7, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.
McCurry played college baseball at Howard College and Oklahoma State University. McCurry was an infielder at Howard before transitioning into a pitcher at Oklahoma State. At Oklahoma State he set a school record with 27 career saves.
McCurry was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 22nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. During his first professional season, he spent time with the Arizona League Athletics, Beloit Snappers and Stockton Ports. He spent 2015 with Stockton and the Midland RockHounds.
On November 25, 2015, McCurry was traded from the Athletics to the Houston Astros for Jed Lowrie. McCurry spent 2015 with both the Stockton Ports and the Midland RockHounds where he posted a 1-3 record with a 1.86 ERA. He began 2016 with the Corpus Christi Hooks before being promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies. He finished 2016 with a 3-5 record with a 5.07 ERA. On December 22, 2016, McCurry was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for methamphetamine.
Franklin Pérez
Franklin Eduardo Pérez Montoya (born December 6, 1997) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.
Pérez signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2014. He made his professional debut in 2015 with the Dominican Summer League Astros and was promoted to the Gulf Coast Astros later that season. He pitched 2016 with the Quad Cities River Bandits.
Kyle Smith
Kyle Thomas Smith (born September 10, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.
Smith was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the fourth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft out of Santaluces Community High School in Lantana, Florida. He made his professional debut in 2012 with the Idaho Falls Chukars and also played for the Kane County Cougars that season. Smith started 2013 with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. On July 31, 2013, he was traded to the Houston Astros for Justin Maxwell. The Astros assigned him to the Lancaster JetHawks to finish the season. Smith started 2014 back with Lancaster and was promoted to the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks in May. A 2014 Texas League All-Star, Smith underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2015.
