  • History

Following a series of successful live performances since 1998 and one day after the release of Hopes and Fears, Keane started a promotional tour for the album, debuting at the Forum in London on 11 May 2004. The tour started to become more serious, with hundreds of people attending the gigs. They soon went to North America, visiting for Canada and Mexico for the first time, where they had gradually become popular. The tour continued throughout 2004, playing several times in the United States and Europe.

In October and soon after, Rice-Oxley composed "Nothing in My Way" (also called "Nothing in Your Way") and "Hamburg Song", both of which were included in the set list, leading Chaplin to play the Hammond organ for both songs.

The idea of filming a documentary arose in 2005 and Ed Roe, an early fan of Keane, was in charge, so they decided to film during the summer of that year, when they were touring the USA. They continued playing during August and September in the USA (returning once to Mexico) to finally close the tour with the opening acts for U2's Vertigo Tour during October. The Strangers DVD containing the documentary was released on 15 November 2005.
