HopSkipDrive is a California-based startup which provides ride-hailing taxi service to kids. It was founded in 2016 by Joanna McFarland, Carolyn Yashari Becher, and Janelle McGlothin and is aimed at children below the age of 18 years who are legally restricted to avail the services of other ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft.

History

In 2013, Joanna McFarland and Janelle McGlothlin met a children's party where the idea about "hiring moms and babysitters to drive kids around" originated. Later, they teamed up with Carolyn Yashari Becher, a former real estate lawyer, to start HopSkipDrive.

Technology

HopSkipDrive is aimed at users between the ages of 7 and 17 years. Parents wanting to hail a cab for their children can activate the HopSkipDrive app through their Android- or iOS-run phones and schedule a ride 24 hours in advance. A "CareDriver" is set up for the commute along with a deck of information about her. The company only employs female drivers who have at least five years of experience in childcare.
