History behind the name

Holdingwilley is a cricket website named after Brian Johnston's famous quote during an England vs West Indies Test Match at The Oval in 1976 which said "The bowler’s Holding, the batsman's Willey". It is a website which claims to be a "not your regular cricket website".

The site offers a special experience of enjoying cricket with live scores using their unique game analysis tools like Chance of Winning (COW), Coach’s Call (CC) and Form Factor (FF) along with some tongue-in-cheek cartoons, passionate articles from their readers all over the world and more.

Holdingwilley is also known for its reports and in-depth analyses on cricket. Some of their more acclaimed works are 'The Holdingwilley Report: All-time TEST TOP 20 (India, 1932–2008)'[1]. They also came out with an Analysis & Prediction before the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup which was carried by DNA (a newspaper), the issue was called "Cuppa Mania".

Holdingwilley was also voted as one of the top 20 websites on cricket by the readers of Telegraph

HoldingWilley differentiates itself by having only caricatures and illustrations of cricket players and cricket events across the globe. It is by far the only cricket website to base itself on illustrations alone.

Holdingwilley is also famous for its unique and tough cricket quizzes hosted on their social media forums such as Facebook and Twitter.

Unique Selling Proposition

Chance of Winning (C0W): is a tool built to predict, at the end of each over, the chances each team has of actually going on to win the match. It takes into account all the variables - strength of the teams playing, resources lost, resources left, pitch conditions and well, everything else, distills it down to a single percentage and summarizes the past, present and future of the match in question. The tool is live for all international ODIs & T20Is.

COW has so far covered 1200+ Limited overs matches which includes: 500+ One Day Internationals, 250+ International T20 matches, 6 complete Indian Premier League editions and 100+ Champions League T20 Matches.

HW Cricket App

On 12 May 2016, HoldingWilley launched a cricket app which will, in course of time may change the way people surf scores on their mobile phones.

‘HW Cricket app’ as they call it, is defined on four pillars namely – Fast, Lite, Innovative and Shareable. The app is very fast, seamless, lite and built in with an attractive design. The creators of the app point out a particular reason behind coming up with this app.

Everything we do, we believe in challenging the conventional, we believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the conventional is by making something which is original, innovative and precisely what a user needs. We just happened to make a great cricket app.

Wanna try it?

For cricket fans, we believe live scores matter way more than anything else while s/he surfs a cricket app. They are ecstatic even more if scores reach them easy and as fast as possible. At the same time, we believe a user is quite perceptive to data usage at all times while surfing apps.

We tried to solve this.

HW Cricket is an ‘only scores cricket app’. We believe in being clean, easy to access and innovatively simple. Therefore no - so many sections, so many buttons, so many links, mindless commentary and a distasteful design.
