Cm tarun gogoi inaugurates the newly created hojai district


Hojai is a new district in the state of Assam, in India. It was formed on 15 August 2015. Hojai is the headquarter of the new district. Hojai district is formed with three thesils of Nagaon district named Hojai, Doboka and Lanka.

Demographics

As per Indian census 2011, those three tehsils together had a population of 9,31,218. So, newly formed Hojai district had a population of 9,31,218 in 2011. Among those 49,9565 are Muslim & 42,4065 are Hindu. Muslims constitute 53.65% of district population, Hindu constitute 45.53% of district population. Hojai district Muslim majority largely due to Doboka thesil which is approximately 87% Muslim. Other two thesils of the district has Hindu majority. The area which consists present day Hojai district had a population of 74,4791 in 2001. In 2001 this area which consists present day hojai district had 37,4205 Muslim, 36,5180 Hindu. That means Hindus were 49.03%, Muslims were 50.24% in 2001 in that area. Hojai district has a population growth of 25.03% during 2001-11.

Politics

Hojai district has three assembly constituencies. They are Jamunamukh, Hojai, and Lumding. Hojai district is also part of Nowgong Lok Sabha constituency.
