Hits 93 Volume 3 is a 22-track compilation album which charted on 14 August 1993 and was released by Telstar Records in association with BMG. The release was subtitled "22 Hot Summer Hits".

Contents

The album was the third volume of four released in 1993 collecting the biggest hits of the year, much like the original The Hits Album collections which were originally issued between 1984 and 1991. BMG became involved in the series from 1986 onwards.

Due to the compilers having full access to BMG material, hits by artists such as Take That, M People, Snap! and Lisa Stansfield appeared on this collection instead of the rival Now That's What I Call Music 25 which featured material licensed from EMI, Virgin and Polygram.

This album contains 22 tracks packed onto a single-CD: a sticker attached to the case claims this fact because twenty tracks was the standard amount of music featured on other compilations at the same time. However, in order to include 22 tracks onto an 80-minute compact disc, a number of tracks are edited and are shorter than the standard radio edits. This could have been avoided on Hits 93 Volume 3 had the album not featured a badly edited version of "It's My Life" by Dr Alban, which had been released a year previously in the summer of 1992. Its inclusion was tenuously due to the song being used as the theme music to a Tampax television commercial and that the song was licensed to BMG, a partner label of the compilation.

The compilation was successful, and reached #2 in the UK Top 20 Compilation chart. It went on to gain a Gold BPI Award for units of over 400,000.
