Hisayuki Toriumi (鳥海 永行, Toriumi Hisayuki, July 9, 1941 – January 23, 2009), sometimes credited as Eiko Toriumi, was a Japanese director, screenwriter, and novelist. He is best known for having directed the television program Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and its ancillary projects. He is also credited for contributing to several other anime series and authored nearly two dozen novels.

Biography
Toriumi was born in Aizuwakamatsu, Kanagawa Pref., Japan. He became interested in filmmaking, then attended a screenwriting institute in college before joining Tatsunoko Production in 1966. Toriumi directed the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman anime television series, its three related projects, and several other Tatsunoko series of the 1970s including Tekkaman: The Space Knight and Hurricane Polymar. He broke away from Tatsunoko in 1979, briefly worked at Sunrise, then became one of the founding members of Studio Pierrot. There, he worked on series such as The Wonderful Adventures of Nils and The Mysterious Cities of Gold. Toriumi worked with his protégé, director Mamoru Oshii, on 1983's Dallos, the first original video animation (OVA) ever released. In his later years he retired from the animation business to become a freelance novelist, authoring nearly two dozen novels.
