Hippophae goniocarpa is a species of flowering plant in the family Elaeagnaceae. The species is divided into two distinct subspecies, subp. litangensis and subp. goniocarpa.

The Latin specific epithet goniocarpa refers to goniocarpus -a -um with angular fruits Also used by Eucalyptus goniocarpa, Iris goniocarpa and Psychotria goniocarpa.

The subp. litangensis differs from the typical subspecies by the young branchlets and the lower surface of leaves. This species grows in mountainous regions in Nepal and China on mountain slopes, river banks, flood lands and valley terraces. Growth altitude is typically between 2650 and 3700 m.
